Course Description
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a significant cause of respiratory morbidity in older adults, particularly in those with chronic cardiorespiratory conditions. This course provides an in-depth clinical overview of the pathophysiology of RSV, routes of transmission, symptom recognition, and risk stratification. Staff will learn evidence-based infection prevention and control measures, including cohorting strategies, personal protective equipment protocols, and vaccination guidance. The course also covers outbreak management, reporting obligations, escalation pathways, and how to communicate effectively with older individuals, families, and multidisciplinary teams while maintaining compliance with regulatory and clinical governance requirements.
This course aims to equip aged care staff with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to prevent, identify, and manage RSV infections in older adults. Participants will gain an understanding of risk factors, clinical manifestations and outbreak response.
