Basic Life Support

July 4, 2019 |

Topic: first-aid learning-and-development

“Each year, UK ambulance services respond to approximately 60,000 cases of suspected cardiac arrest.
The immediate initiation of bystander CPR can double or quadruple survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Defibrillation within 3–5 min of collapse can produce survival rates as high as 50–70%.” *

How confident would you feel responding to an emergency involving an unresponsive casualty? Altura Learning has produced this course to provide an overview of the theory behind the practice of basic life support.

Using clear demonstrations, our first aid expert and our presenter take learners through the systematic steps involved in responding to an emergency, from the initial survey and checking response, through to CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). We also look at how to support a person who is choking. In all cases we also identify where procedures differ when responding to an adult, a child or an infant.

While this course does not provide learners with the necessary practical training and competencies to qualify as a first aider. It does provide accessible and essential support, through an overview and refresher of the basic life support theory that learners should be aware of.
